The History
of Stack Bros.

Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors, Inc., a family-owned company, has been serving Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Midwest for over 130 years!

The Stack family has been a prominent fixture in the Superior, Wisconsin business community since 1890. William J. Stack and his brother John Stack founded the plumbing, heating and mechanical business, now known as Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors, Inc., to serve the homeowners and businesses in the rapidly growing Twin Port community.

Over the next century Stack Bros. worked with 23 school districts, multiple major hospitals, and clinics in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and continued to grow their portfolio by adding boiler installation and repair services.

In April of 1995 they became too large for their original location in downtown Superior, Wisconsin and moved to a new location with an enlarged space for fabrication, heavy equipment storage, and the growing fleet of service vehicles.

In the Spring of 2013 Stack Bros. found themselves overgrown for their space and started construction on an additional building with more than double the office space and service shop area on Hill Avenue across from Cenovus Energy (previously known as Murphy Oil) in Superior, Wisconsin.

Stack Bros. crews are involved in a broad range of new construction and remodeling projects involving plumbing, re-piping, and boiler replacements for homeowners and many commercial facilities such as hospitals, schools, churches, industrial and commercial buildings, supercenters, apartments, condominiums, university buildings and student housing.

Our design-build approach has always focused on energy efficiency improvement and sustainability by focusing on building control integration. Whenever possible Stack Bros. uses a mix of control systems and applications to combine historical systems and products with digital integration.

Our vast experience has made Stack Bros. a leader in both remodeling and retrofitting of HVAC and plumbing systems and LEED construction methods. This focus is best defined by our involvement in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics at the University of Minnesota Duluth Campus.

Stack Bros. also had a major involvement in the mechanical HVAC systems for the new construction of the Douglas County Metro Center in Superior, Wisconsin.
